Travel DNA

A simple way to tell us how you actually travel — so the cities, reviews, and trips you see make sense for you.

What is a Travel DNA?

Your Travel DNA is the unique mix of travel styles that defines how you experience the world. Some people travel solo on a backpack, others book luxury honeymoons, some chase food, others chase nightlife. Most of us are a mix.

When you sign up, you pick the styles that describe you. That becomes your Travel DNA — visible on your profile and used quietly behind the scenes to make Citynio feel personal.

How we recommend cities to you

Every city on Citynio is tagged with the travel styles it suits best — Tokyo for Solo + Food + Culture, Phuket for Beach + Honeymoon + Family, Berlin for Nightlife + Digital Nomad + Culture, and so on.

When your Travel DNA overlaps with a city's tags, that city gets surfaced in your Recommended for you section on the homepage. The more your styles match, the higher it ranks. No tracking, no creepy algorithms — just direct matching based on what you told us.

Why your Travel DNA is public

When you read a review on a city page, the reviewer's Travel DNA shows alongside it. That context matters more than the star rating.

“A luxury honeymoon traveller calling Bali a 6/10 means something completely different than a solo backpacker calling it a 9/10. Without context, ratings are noise. With context, they're useful.”

By looking at reviewers who share your Travel DNA, you get a much more accurate picture of what your experience would likely be.

It grows with you

Every city you save, visit, or review adds to your Travel DNA over time. Your profile builds a visual record — visited countries on a map, traveler badge tiers, continent counts — that becomes part of your identity on Citynio.

You can update your Travel DNA anytime in your profile settings.
